Artists statement

My practice explores themes of folklore, memory, and personal narrative through contemporary figurative painting. Working primarily in acrylic and oil, I create expressive paintings that merge observation with imagination, drawing inspiration from cultural storytelling, lived experience, and the emotional landscapes that shape our identities.

Rather than illustrating a specific narrative, my work invites viewers to construct their own interpretations. Figures often exist in dreamlike or ambiguous spaces where memory, myth, and reality intersect, creating moments that feel both familiar and elusive. Through layered surfaces, rich colour palettes, gestural mark-making, and expressive brushwork, I seek to capture emotion as much as form.

My paintings explore themes of identity, belonging, vulnerability, and resilience, reflecting on the stories we inherit, the memories we preserve, and the imagined worlds we create to understand ourselves. I am interested in the balance between representation and abstraction, allowing each work to remain open-ended while encouraging an emotional connection between the painting and the viewer.

Ultimately, I hope my work offers a space for reflection—where personal histories and collective folklore intertwine, inviting viewers to discover their own narratives within each painting.
